California State Senator Thomas Umberg visits Anaheim Campus

This August, California State Senator Tom Umberg joined TCSPP President Dr. Michele Nealon and Assistant Campus Dean Christine Oh to see the Anaheim campus and talk about the need for support for our students to complete their education with less debt and serve as the changemakers they are in the State’s mental health crisis.

State Senator Umberg along with State Senator Susan Talamantes Eggman sponsored the Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment (CARE) Act – SB 1338 – to provide help upstream, ahead of conservatorships and outside the walls of institutions. Under CARE, families, clinicians, first responders and others will be able to refer individuals suffering from schizophrenia spectrum or psychotic disorders.

Sen. Umberg shared his personal experience in supporting a family member with mental illness and the need for qualified mental health practitioners to support the implementation of this legislation across California. He was pleasantly surprised to learn about our Anaheim campus, our nonprofit practicum partners across Orange County and the depth and quality of TCSPP students and alumni.

This type of outreach effort is under the direction of our public affairs and communications team to shine a light on the leadership and community commitment of The Chicago School, its students, leadership, and alumni.
